5 Spiritual Rituals to Kick Off your New Year

If you know me, you know I love a good ritual. I know the word "ritual" can be off-putting to some. While I don't consider myself a witch, and don't consider this to be spell casting, there is certainly a magical power within you that is sparked when you take time to hold sacred space for setting your intention.

You have big goals and dreams for 2019! And big things to shed from the last year. Tell the Universe you really mean it by trying some or all of these suggestions. Remember, more importantly than anything else is your intention behind it. Be sure to approach these things from a place of excitement and gratitude- if it feels like a chore, skip it or rework it. Play some of your favorite music, light a candle (I recommend white!) and have fun with it!!

1.) Reflect

Take some time to think over the last year. I personally will do this through meditation and journaling. Remember that gratitude carries a high vibration which will help you create more of the good things in your life. Do not dwell on the negative, rather look at it from an outside and analytical perspective. And feel proud! You have gotten through some difficult times and you’re still standing. Celebrate!! You deserve it!

Some questions to consider while you do this:

What has changed in your physical life around you for the better? What has changed in your behavior and mindset for the better? What deserves to be celebrated? What are you grateful for? What accomplishments are you proud of? What did you learn from the difficult times? What do you feel isn’t working for you to change for next year?

2.) Release

Now that you’ve reflected on the past year, take some time to consider what you’d like to let go of. Whatever held you back this year does not need to come with you into the next year. Though we can’t always control the negative things that happen in our life, or the choices other people make, changing our circumstances starts with our mindset. How can your mindset and your own behavior change this year for the better?

Identify behaviors and thoughts which have been a pattern of holding you back. Write them down in simple terms. For example, “Thank you Universe for your support. With your love, I release… My self doubt, my need to control, my gambling addiction, etc.” Whatever it is, write it down.

Now destroy it. Burn it, cut it up and flush it, tear it in tiny little pieces. Whatever you are able to do safely. Visualize these negative patterns disappearing as you do it. Let go.

3.) Clean

As your environment goes, so goes your mind. Take some time to declutter your space. Donate unwanted items. Sweep the floor and sweep everything out your front door. Open your windows to get rid of stagnant air.

As you do this, approach it with reverence and set the intention that this will help you symbolically release the clutter in your home, in your mind, in your soul. You could even say a prayer or incantation while you do this to keep you focused on your intention. “Thank you Universe for helping me rid my home of any negative and stagnant energy that has been holding me back.”

For an added boost, if you have a sage smudge stick or palo santo, you can cleanse the air of negative energy as well!

Negativity is not allowed in 2019! Get it out!

4.) Balance

Getting energetically balanced can be different for everyone. Maybe exercise is your therapy, or you find that introspection while you’re deep cleaning. Take some time to yourself to do what will make you feel level headed, clear, and fresh.

For me, I will be taking a nice lavender Epsom salt bath. I will surround myself with my favorite crystals, a white candle to represent the love and support of the Universe guiding me, and some beautiful chakra balancing meditation music. I will do a meditation and visualization where I picture white light flowing through each of my chakras. If you’re interested in trying this, there are many fantastic tracks of meditation music on YouTube and Spotify. If this doesn’t resonate with you, try what you think will work for you! It should feel good, so don’t be obligated to try it my way if that’s not something that stresses you out.

Either way, remember to drink lots of water to clear your system of any yuckiness as well!

5.) Ask

Ask the Universe to help you achieve your goals this coming year. Put your desires out there. Set your intentions! Remember to use “I am” statements. It carries an extremely strong energetic vibration which will help you manifest your dreams into reality.

Again, I highly recommend writing these down, and I personally will do so listening to beautiful music with a white candle burning. It’s important, if you’re serious about these dreams, to approach this with the same sense of reverence and seriousness that you deserve.

As you write each thing, pause and take a moment to get yourself into the vibration of having that thing. What will it feel like when you’ve accomplished this goal? See yourself having achieved it, and really feel the feelings that go along with it.

There are many things you could do with your paper after you’ve written your intentions. Plant them (literally bury them in the dirt), set them on a special shelf or alter, or just hang them on the wall so that you may look at them all year long. There’s a delicate balance between trusting the Universe to deliver it to you, and obsessing. Some people are better motivated by daily reminders and some people prefer a more “set it and forget it” approach. Choose which ever works for you!

Let me know which of these you try and how you liked them. Have a safe and lovely New Year’s Eve with your loved ones, and I look forward to the magical year we can make together!

Happy New Year!

With love,

Jamie Day xo
